The Civil War is a very famous war because of the incredible impact that it has had on our great and resilient country. The battles and the importance of those battle is what gets the recognition from most, but what the armies did when they weren’t in combat mostly goes unnoticed. Mr. Gary Helm writes a wonderful article named “Disease, Hunger, Death & Boredom” on how the solders lived and what obstacles they had to fight simply to live long enough to make it to the battlegrounds.

Mr. Helm in an employee for Hallowed Ground Magazine, which is a company that publishes many articles about all things associated with the Civil War. Although there is not much information to be found on Mr. Helm, his article does not present any information that would be considered bias. His article is intended to inform the readers about what really happened to the soldiers during war time and how difficult it truly was to be a Confederate or Union solder. In the opening paragraph, Mr. Helm begins his article with a great thesis that really lets the reader know what the article is generally about. By emphasizing the soldiers in his thesis the author immediately tells you the article is about the soldiers and their war lives. The author uses different direct quotes …show more content…
Helm wrote is still a significant one because it shows how there is more to war than the actual combat. People suffer every day in war and it takes great courage to be a part of it. While war is extremely different today, the article shows the true penalty that comes from war and how truly horrible it can be and still is. The article was written in great detail and left myself wanting to dig deeper into the history of the Civil War. The thesis the author stated in the beginning of his article was fantastic because the whole article falls in line with the thesis.
