Pregnancy is an important stage in the development of human life. The physiological and physical development of the fetus is greatly determined by the activities of the mother during this first nine months, which happen to take place in the mother’s womb. Whatever is consumed by the mother somehow also ends up in the fetus’ system and can greatly determines its development. Substance and/or drug usual during pregnancy is widely recognized as a major public health concern with harmful effects on both mother and the unborn child. Many countries in the world try as much as possible to control this and safe the unborn fetus.

Secondary data was used and analysis was conducted with Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN). Information from 502 female adolescents and adults who stated having been pregnant in the past year was used for this study. Each female had to complete the GAIN upon entry into substance abuse treatment. These participants were compared on demographic, diagnostic, and problem severity varies by race and age. The composition of the participating population greatly mirrors the population distribution of the United States in most aspects in 2008. “White (41.3%), African American (19.2%), Hispanic (17.8%), and Mixed (18.4%).
