“Kids these days!” Everyone has heard someone say that before, and, if you aren’t one of the “kids these days”, you have probably found yourself saying the same thing at some point. There’s always some sort of trend that kids are getting into- some more annoying than others. Bottle flipping, which is a more recent trend, many parents would agree is definitely one of the more annoying trends. However, many people didn’t know that water bottle flipping can actually be bad for the environment, disruptive, and for most kids, not even that much fun. First of all, bottle flipping is actually harmful for the environment. Anyone that bottle flips knows that bottle flipping really works best with disposable bottles. However, 1 in 5 disposable water bottles end up getting thrown away as opposed to being recycled, and water bottles that are thrown away can take anywhere from 400-1,000 years to decompose. Water bottle flipping also wastes water, because if a teen doesn’t want to drink the water in order to flip the water bottle, they sometimes simply pour it down the drain- and it already takes 3x more water to produce a plastic water bottle than it would to fill one up.
