Disrespect In To Kill A Mockingbird

In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem and scout encounter a horrible behaved neighbor named Mrs.Dubose. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird Mrs.Dubose has to have respect from anyone and everyone at any time, she is not afraid to speak her mind about the family in any way. Mrs.Dubose is a sick old lady that is addicted to drugs and is a lonely old lady. She is very rude to kids but always wants Jem to be honest and for him to have respect for everyone.
This novel shows that Mrs.Dubose doesn't like when people disrespect her or don't do things the way she wants them to do, as it says in this novel, “Don't you lie to be!” (Lee) also “Don't you contradict me!” (Lee). Mrs.Dubose will not take any kind of disrespect from any age but also she doesn't know how to control her temper and says things she shouldn't say to children, Mrs.Dubose doesn't like the family and says horrible and embarrassing things, for example she says “Not only a finch waiting on tables but one in the courthouse lawing for niggers” (Lee). Jem knows that scout get angry easily so when Scout got mad Mrs.Dubose, Jem calmed him down by saying “Come on Scout, he whispered don't pay any attention to her, just hold your head

She never hesitates to say something to anymore, as she refers to in the novel she says to scout “what're you doing in those overalls? You should be in a dress and camisole young lady! You'll grow up waiting on tables if somebody doesn't change your ways a finch waiting on tables at the O.K cafe-hah!” (Lee). She is being cranky and making hurtful comments toward others , but she is also being honest in which wearing overalls back then for a girl was very different for people to witness. She shows Jem that people are going to be rude but never take anything to heart and what people say is ¨treat people how you want to be treated¨ and that is what she is showing
