Distrust In Democracy

As the United States was coming together, the people needed a successful form of government to thrive on. The Constitution was created on a limited central government to give citizens more freedom, but many believe it was created on a feeling of distrust in a democracy. While choosing a form of government, the founders looked into the past governments that had successes and failures. Even though I do believe there is distrust in a democracy, I do not believe that distrust was the base of the Constitution.
Democracy has had an unsuccessful past as a form of government for a country. In 507 B.C. in Greece, a man named Cleisthenes created a form of government called “demokratia”. This would be the first government run by the people of the country

The first colonists of America were getting away from a strict Parliament in England that was under the control of King George III. During this time, citizens of Britain were subject to an extreme, almost dictatorship, where the people had no say in government decisions and were treated very poorly. No one was aloud to speak there mind, nor could they act out against the king without being punished and even killed in some instances. Some punishments were that citizens were banned from the few privileges that were given like going and getting food or seeing a doctor when sick. Upon arrival of the United States, the colonists created the Article of Confederation. This written document was strongly against a strong central government which is what they were subject to in England. This form of government was for an immense amount of freedom to the people and to the states. Each state was able to retain its own sovereignty, independence, and every power was through the state according to the second article in the Articles of Confederation. Therefore, each state was almost its own country. As the government continued to prove that it would not be successful, many well known and well respected men of the states gathered together in secret to create a more stable and controlled
