Since the early 1800, race has been played a major role in the American economy. In fact, according to chapter 3 in the book “Diversity in Family,” “Race has been a fundamental criterion in determine the kind of work that people do, the kind of wages that people earn, the kind of legal, political, and social support that will provide for their families” (Zinn, Eitzen, and Wells, 2015). With that say, it is obvious that racial inequality has been there over a long period of time. Although many people are not aware of that, racial inequality is a system that was putted in place to advantage the white elites, and to disadvantage the minority. The article argues that, “The disparity between non-Hispanic white and African American arises in part because of racial and ethnic gaps in employment, health, and wealth” (Stanford University, 2018). For instance, since the early 2000 the employments rate for African American have been lower in number than it is for white men. In fact, researchers show, it has been at least 11 to 15 percent lower for African American than for white men. Moreover, the earning for black male have been 32 percent lower than the median earing for white men. In addition, because of the “New Deal” enacted by President Franklin Roosevelt, over 50% of African American are unable to buy a home and been forced to live in rental communities, which lead 1 in 6 Black and Hispanic households to spend 50% of their income on housing and leaving them with fewer resources to support their families (Stanford, 2018).
