In history, throughout women’s lives their roles and statuses have changed from one extreme to another. From the beginning of time we have been seen as the nurturer, the husband was the provider and doer of the house. Women only got jobs for extra money as a small means of help. By a young age a girl was married and starting her role as a wife, mother, maid, nurse, tailor, chef, errand runner, and problem solver. To this day that still continues, yes, more men do it now more, than they used to. Which is a very good thing, and still is from both sides. Yet, the roles have switched in a lot of ways. Men, now stay at home more and do the “house wife stuff” where women are bringing in the money. Yes, it is helpful as a women to have a man help take responsibility in the chores and raising of the children. But I believe it should be a 50/50 split after birth. Both parents should be involved, to the max with the kids.
Women have come a long way in their rights and roles in society. Woman are no longer expected to be the homemakers, in many families, especially single parent families women are the sole providers.
The status of women in the United States throughout history has grown significantly. Throughout history women had fewer legal rights and career opportunities than. Women were seen to be just wives and mothers and take care of the homes while the husbands worked. Women did not have a say in having jobs, voting, or even attending college. It appears that a lot of things began to change around the 19th and 20th century. For example in the beginning of the 19th century, women began working outside the homes in large numbers, in textile mills and garment shops. The medical profession had also changed their attitude about women as well. This was considered to be suitable work for women. In the 1920's women were given the right to vote, however their political roles were minimal. Women have made a noticeable mark in the world today. Men have become more acceptable of the different roles we play. The change throughout the years have been reflected in the politics, employment and even in our status within the home.
The status of women in the U. S. is that women are getting some of the same benefits as men. There are many organizations that fight for the equality of women and they are succeeding. When we look at how women are now allowed to be doctors and nurses, and receive the same pay. We also now see women in the courtrooms as judges and working in the construction area beside the men. Women have advanced greatly and have a lot to be proud of .We are striving daily to be treated fairly with the men and it is well deserved. There may be a small percentage of males that may feel that women are not equal to them, however, the larger percentage feels that women are equal. Women have struggled for years to be next to man and not in front or in back. Women work just as hard as a man, sometimes harder in different situations.
Furthermore according to an article on the NOW website, “Throughout the history of this country, women have faced systematic and purposeful discrimination. Women were conspicuously absent from the U.S. Constitution when it was drafted more than 200 years ago, and to this day women still have no explicit legal guarantee of equal protection. While the 14th Amendment to the Constitution is commonly viewed as a source of protection for women, it does not provide sufficient legal remedies for sex discrimination. The ERA must be ratified to ensure meaningful and lasting equality for all women”.

There are many things that stand out in America as we have all come to know it today. Among those that are in the majority there are no worries, and things are typically thought to be very equal and just. Everything is relative, and compared to the past everything is equal and just, but there is a lot of ground that can still be made. There are numerous examples throughout our history of people stating grievances in the cases
