Some heroes aren’t always recognized or noticed for the good deeds they do or the things they accomplish. Heroes today play a big role in society. Doc Hendley is the founder of a non-profit organization called WinetoWater. He has turned his normal job as a wine tender, into something that has changed his life and the lives of people all over the world. Doc Hendley is a persistent, altruistic, inspiring hero in society. Doc Hendley’s persistence is unremitting. Doc started out as a simple man working at a bar as a wine tender. He found delight in getting to meet and talk to new people every day, while growing close relationships with them. All Doc’s life, he wanted to give something substantial to others, do something that would make a difference, but he didn’t know what. He used his skill as a bartender to raise money at wine tasting events. After a lot of hard work, dedication, and planning, Doc established his non-profit organization, in 2003. Putting others before yourself is a heroic trait. Doc Hendley is an altruistic person because he shows large concern for the well-being of others. He has lived under harsh conditions, but it never has stopped him. Doc has changed his whole life by moving to poor places for periods of time to help the people living there. He travels to war-ridden, undeveloped, poor nations that need his help. Places such as The Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Uganda, and Nepal have been changed forever by him (CNN). Additionally, he put himself in major danger by traveling to Sudan during a government supported genocide. During the period of installing clean water systems, two of Hendley’s crew members men died (Bio Doc Hendley). This only pushed Doc harder. Later, Doc wrote a book about his experiences and also became a professional public
