1. Define the principles of popular sovereignty and republicanism and explain how they relate to the way the people of the United States are represented in Congress. (2 points)
Popular sovereignty is the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives,who are the source of all political power.
Republicanism is the idea of being a citizen in a state as a republic under which the people hold popular sovereignty.
These principles relate to the people of the United states allowing citizens to vote who represents them in Congress, the basis of popular sovereignty and therefore part of republicanism as well.

2. Do you think that the demographic makeup of Congress should exactly mirror the makeup of the U.S. population in order to fully exemplify the principles of popular sovereignty and republicanism? Explain your answer. (2
