In the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, the main character Tom, has a conflict. After someone was murdered a person was framed, Tom knows who the killer really is but has made a promise to his friend, Huckleberry Finn, to never reveal the truth on who the the real killer is. Tom Sawyer should tell the truth, if he doesn't an innocent man could die for a crime he didn't commit.

After the death of a young doctor, a man is framed for the murder. Tom knows what the right thing to do, but doesn't want to tell the truth because it could get him killed and lose a friend. Tom’s conscious is gnawing at him because he knows that without the truth a man would be killed, while the one who actually committed the murder would continue
