Due to my empirical findings, I would venture to claim that taking the stairs instead of the elevator is morally required. The act of forgoing the usage of an elevator would be seen as good for society and intrinsically the act of using the elevator should not be performed due to the harm that would result from it.
Walter Sinnott-Armstrong would whole-heartedly disagree with the notion that I am morally required to take the stairs instead of the elevator. In his philosophical article, he states that an act as insignificant as taking the elevator per se would neither be sufficient nor necessary for global warming to occur.
