Dogs versus Cats. Marvel versus DC. Democrats versus Republicans. These are some of the most famous rivalries in history, though the latter may have more in common than you think. Although there are obvious differences between Democrats and Republicans, the similarities in their views, history, and methods of campaigning are striking.

Democrats and Republicans share some views and beliefs. Democrats tend to be more progressive and Republicans more conservative, but there are things both parties agree on. They both believe that it is okay to allow drones to patrol U.S. skies. Democrats believe that we must give up a bit of privacy to have protection. Republicans agree, believing that catching potential terrorists is much more important than not wanting the President to possibly see your text about needing more shampoo. Surprisingly, Democrats and Republicans can agree, believe it or not.

Democrats were the original party, named for the Democracy that we wanted. A little-known fact is that Republicans branched off when they disagreed with the original Democrats’ support of slavery. Now, I know what you’re thinking, and my response is that we shouldn’t let this ancient political view tarnish what we think of Democrats today. Republicans named themselves after the Republic system like Ancient Rome used. Surprisingly, neither party was in the original plan for America. George Washington himself even said that we shouldn’t split up into two political parties, as this would impair the nation. Whoops. In essence, the two parties have a similar
