Domestic violence can occur when one person may feel the need to control or dominate their partner.Domestic abuse is behavior that includes violence or other abuse by one person in a relationship. The Huffington’s post tells us about a women that ran away from her abusive husband and when he found out he used the GPS in her phone to track her down. “When she did not return, her husband used the GPS on her phone to track her down. He scoured her phone records and determined where she was staying. He called her friends and left intimidating voice mails, threatening to kill anyone who helped her.” This kind of controlling behavior should be considered obsessive. Domestic violence can be caused by many different factors. Abusers might possibly feel the need to control their partners because of jealousy, low self esteem, or just not having the knowledge of how to properly control their anger. There’s also the possibility that some men are still living in the 50s and they feel like women will never be equal to men. Some other causes can be acts of violence in the abuser’s past. It is likely that the abuser has seen or been abused to a point where they believe it’s acceptable. The effects of domestic abuse are scarring and will stick with both participants for the rest of their life. The reactions from domestic abuse depends on how the victim handles stress. Others factors include age and how exposed they’ve been to abuse in the past. Obviously domestic abuse affects the victim physically. They have have lifelong scars or bruises or even broken bones depending on how serious the abuse was. Some mental effects can be PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression, or dissociation. Considering the effects of domestic violence it’s surprising that there are still at least 20 countries without any laws against domestic
