Reflection Paper 1 When comparing comments from Don Imus about Rutgers women basketball team to Snoop Dog’s derogatory comments about Kim Kardashian, a few glaring similarities arise from the comparison. One similarity between them is the intent to degrade or belittle the victims behind each of their respective comments. Also, they both get viewers from the public by making all these comments about people that stir up the masses. Basically, Don Imus and Snoop Dog increase their own status by putting others down. However, they also have major differences between them. Snoop Dogs comments were mainly making scathing comments about an already notorious celebrity, which was already expected of him. However, Don Imus’s comments were somewhat unexpected considering a man of his position in society.
I do believe there is a double standard in judgment for Snoop Dog and Don Imus. For Don Imus, it’s to be punished for his choice of words when Snoop Dog was applauded for his scathing comments about Kim Kardashian. This is the same concept or conundrum that the word Nigga revolves around. I see that double standard

This is due to the fact that Don is a Caucasian making a racist statement, and according to Bloom’s beliefs racism from a Caucasian is worse than racism in general. I don’t believe Bloom is right at all, racism at its core isn’t just black versus white, its discrimination. To discriminate based on anything is wrong at its very core, and even if you’re white, black or purple, no one has the right to look down upon you. Blooms position does matter when comparing Snoop and Imus because his position reflects the beliefs of the majority of today’s society, as well as the double standard that is in effect against them.
