Dooley And Holtzman's Post-It

Often, when performing a play, the cast edits the original to make it more authentic and relatable to them while keeping the author's originality. After reading "Post-its" by Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman, we decided to make the play ours by changing three main things; the characters, the moral, and the speech/diction.

Notably, in the original script, the characters are a married couple (man/women) who leave each other post-its with directions and this is simply how they communicate throughout their lifespan. However, for us, the story happens between two friends, hence, our friendship theme. Our characters are two black women who find themselves living together during the Great Recession of 2007. They live together until one of them gets married and moves out to be with her new family. Our main characters are Kenisha, a registered nurse, and Brandy, a psychiatrist. Although they both have their degrees, due to the lack of jobs and revenue coming into the country, they are living off what little they have left over from college grants.

In turn, our morale is also different. By the end of our play, the audience should realize that the moral of the play is that no matter what your current situation/struggle is there is always a silver lining. Kenisha lost her mother but she gained a baby and a husband in addition to getting her dream job. Brandy received the gift of friendship and emotional stability even though in the beginning they had struggled with
