The article “Doublespeak” by William Lutz is very informative, eye-opening, and still very relevant today. I agree with Lutz that “language can easily distort perception and influence behavior and thus be a tool, or weapon, for achieving the greatest good or the greatest evil (page 25.” Many people use doublespeak to either confuse someone, make something seem greater or less than what it actually is, or to attempt to cover the harsh truth.
I believe that even though this article was written in 1988 we most likely see more instances of doublespeak today than they did then. Lutz makes a great point when talking about political language by saying that it is “language that attacks the very purpose of language (page 28)”, meaning that instead
