The Man Who Could See Tomorrow
Robert Jarvik said that “Leaders are visionaries with a poorly developed sense of fear, and no concept of the odds against them.” The actor Ronald Reagan was a visionary leader, who joined politics. Reagan joined the Army Reserve Corps and was a second lieutenant. He is known for his acting outside of the presidency. The most notable event was acting with a chimpanzee. His ability to communicate with others and present his ideas in a understandable manner made him an effective and visionary leader. David Gergen offers insight into a visionary leader in his quote “A leader's role is to raise people's aspirations for what they can become and to release their energies so they will try to get there.” Doug Rossinow brings attention to Reagan’s “Vision of a nuclear free world” (Rossinow). Reagan was able to dream of a better world and made others believe that he could help form that better life. The former president of Great Britain was quoted saying “We were in politics because we wanted to put our philosophy into practice”(Thatcher) Anyone that met Reagan could tell that he had a vision and was going to be successful in what he put his mind to. Reagan was one of few men who had this persona about himself.

While many said that his economics would destroy the country, other countries started asking him what he did that renewed the country (Reagan). Reagan did not let anyone who said he would fail get in the way of his mission to better the country. This is evident in the Air Traffic Controller Strike. Reagan was forced to clamp down on strikes for the critical Air Traffic Controllers to ensure that the aviation system did not fall apart, showing once again how firm he was in his vision.“For Reagan it was the first time of many lines drawn in the sand”
