The Effects of Japan’s Labor Force on its Economic Development The labor shortage in Japan has a negative impact on the country’s economic development. The labor shortage can be attributed to an aging workforce, as well as, education gaps and curbs in immigration. Japan’s unemployment rate is about 3 percent. (Trading Economics).
