DQ1 Responses to Critical thinking and language
1. Hi Sara,
I think you made some valid points. One of the things I would like to point out about sign language is sign language is very crucial when speaking to those who are deaf and not able to communicate the way individuals communicate daily. I believe failure to provide complete and early access to language can have devastating and permanent effects on a child. Few things have as great an impact on a child and in as many areas of development such as language skills. I have two children who are not hearing impaired however I decided to teach the sign language at the age of six months. I thought it was very important to teach both of them a different form of communication instead of always

Students from diverse language backgrounds come across this difficulty every day in schools. Because language and culture are so entwined, language minority students are expected to learn and use a new language and new cultural dispositions successfully as soon as they are in a new environment. Often this new language and culture is different from what they have learned at home. Extensive studies have shown there is evidence suggesting that students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds experience poorer educational outcomes than their peers (Bennett et al., 2004; Conchas & Noguera, 2004; Sanders, 2000).

Hi Alexander,
I think hip hop has changed the younger culture as we know it. Hip hop artists has influenced how this generation speak, dress and respond to society. One of the most influential artists of our time, Jay Z, has influenced not only this culture but the business world as well. Companies realize in order to sell and market their product they need the face of a person who can reach out the most to this generation. For example, Apple relies on hip hop and pop artists to sell their music and products. They know these artists have a following. That following will lead to increase revenue and prestige for the company.
7. Just last week I heard a friend of mine use a word that was so outrageous that I thought the words are becoming ridiculous. A friend told me they were going to get “turned up”. Of course I looked at her like what are you talking about? She said turned up mean going out and having fun. I asked myself why she didn’t just say that. When I have to learn to decipher each word and each phrase when I am speaking to someone, which means I am not privy to the
