Stevenson uses setting in many ways to present fear and mystery to the reader, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Stevenson is a novel in which setting plays an important feature. In the book Dr Jekyll represents good and Mr Hyde represents evil, however they are technically the same person and show us the good and evil in all of us. Stevenson creates a chilling setting which emphasises the themes of good and evil.

At the beginning of the book we find out that Hydes door was “equipped with neither bell nor knocker,” This is the description of the back entrance to Dr Jekyll's lab. Not only is the dirty entrance anonymous and unknown, it shows the the outcasts of society. Unlike the main house his lab cuts out on an alley street, its windows are covered
