Cancer Warrior is a film that aired in 2001 about Dr. Judah Folkman’s journey to discovering a new treatment for cancer. As a young surgeon, Dr. Folkman made an important discovery about the way cancer grows. He called his discovery “angiogenesis.” The next 40 years of Dr. Folkman’s life would be dedicated to proving angiogenesis’ existence. At this point, all cancer treatments were toxic to the human body. Dr. Folkman’s radical idea was to cut off the cancer’s food supply. This idea was almost an accident. In 1961, Dr. Folkman was recruited by the U.S. Navy to find a longer lasting substitute for blood. Instead of just testing to see if hemoglobin would sustain an organ, he tested for new growth. Dr. Folkman found that the reason for the growth of tumors in the mouse had to do with blood vessels.
