When I think of school presentations at Berks campus, I think about positive, supportive, and influential events for students to attend. Dr. Peter Langman’s presentation on school shooters was the only presentation I attended that was different than the rest. Dr. Langman focused more on understanding why people would commit terroristic attacks such as shooting up a school. Starting off his presentation, he asked the audience simple questions. Some of the questions asked were if we ever experienced being teased, made fun of, or if we ever had romantic rejections. Everyone in the audience nodded their head in agreement until he asked us if we ever committed mass murder. Some laughed at the question, but others took it as a serious matter. He then explained each type using real life examples of events that happened in the United States. All of the people who did these actions had precipitating events such as rejection, failure, harassment, disciplinary, legal trouble, or financial stress. In several occasions, the people who committed mass murder were denied access to the military and their fathers were retired Air Force pilots. Dr. Langman made it seem like there is a bit of a correlation going on with that information. Although Dr. Langman’s book Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters focuses on true events that can happen anywhere, he is still looking for ways to avoid these tragic events from
