The history of basketball and the changes it has had. Who invented the game, the rules, and how did he make the sport popular. The first african american to join the NBA.

Dr. Naismith was trying to think of a sport that kids could play at the YMCA during the winter months. He wanted to make the game that didn't require much strength not as much as football. Dr. Naismith wanted a sport that could be played indoors. So he decided to experiment with a soccer ball and peach baskets. If Dr. Naismith didn’t experiment with peach baskets and the soccer ball. What would he have done to still have a sport to play in the winter months. If Dr.Naismith was still alive he would never expect his experiment would be one of the most popular and watched sport in america.

At west At west virginia tech Lloyd was the star basketball player. On October 31, 1950, 21 year old Lloyd became the first african american to join the NBA. The first team he played on for the season opener was the Washington Capitals. After Lloyd got his foot in the door for being the first african american to play in the NBA, two more african americans joined the NBA as well. When Lloyd joined an all white team, I imagine he was a little intimidated. Some of the players that were on the all white team already played integrated basketball in college, so they welcomed Lloyd to the team. After seven games with the capitals, Lloyd was drafted into the military for two years. I could imagine being the first african american to join the NBA, you would wonder how people would react. Lloyd didn’t pay much attention to that all he wanted to do was to play pro
