In the movie, Dr.Strangelove, by Stanley Kubrick, satirizes the Cold War danger of a nuclear conflict between the USSR and the USA. The movie employs satirical devices like irony, absurdity, exaggeration and sarcasm to denounce issues in the society. It gives us a clear sense of how the military strategy was applied during the Cold War and the comedy that was also added in some of the scenes. Kubrick then uses the exploited factors that occurred during the attack and satirizes them.
The act of confidentiality and sarcasm plays a role in this satirical,black comedy movie where secrets are being exposed carelessly in times of trouble. The Russian Ambassador neglects the fact about keeping their meeting a secret when General Turgidson catches him taking pictures of the American military plan. This act also recurs when General Turgidson’s secretary picks up the phone and talks to one of the commanding pilot. She yells out valuable information across the room to the General without knowing that it is meant to be classified. Dr. Dreadlove goes on by talking about the number of American lives that will be lost and how it will still benefit us economically. Furthermore, another scene of absurdity is when the pilot falls with the bomb while waving his hat. Kubrick uses absurdity to satirize the fact that people are blinded by everything and they destroy everyone using the “Doomsday machine” which is suicidal and ridiculous.
