“Dreams” by Langston Hughes, is a short, free verse poem in which Hughes shares with the readers the importance of holding on to dreams. Throughout the poem, Langston Hughes spreads the message that life is meaningless without a dream or a goal to aspire to. In verses two, three and four, Hughes compares a life in which a dream has died to “a broken-winged bird that cannot fly”. When a bird cannot fly, their main mode of transportation is gone, making the bird almost useless. By comparing a life with dead dreams to a bird that cannot fly, Hughes is saying that a life in which there are no dreams is potentially useless because an individual without a dream, is an individual with no real desire to achieve anything, making that person useless. …show more content…
The play is about the life of Harry Potter and his friends and family nineteen years after the death of Voldemort. Albus Potter, Harry’s son is starting his first year at Hogwarts and does not want to be sorted into Slytherin. Once he gets to Hogwarts his attitude towards his father changes because he does not want to be branded with the Potter name. Albus also becomes best friends with Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius. Throughout the novel the two boys get their hands on an illegal time turner and attempt to correct a mistake made by Harry in the past. By using the time turner they see alternate realities and realize they cannot mess with the past to create a better future. The message being spread through the play is that no one can go back in time to fix a mistake, all individuals must accept the present and make the most of it. This is evident because no matter how hard Albus and Scorpius tried, they could not create the present they wanted by changing the past, they had to realize that the present they already had was good without alterations. Many people in today's world must also realize what Albus and Scorpius realized; that even though many individuals may want to change the past, they do not always know what that would do to the
