When given the opportunity, people will often take advantage of what niceties and modest instructions and comforts come their way. Whether it’s guilting friends into providing money, blatantly disregarding the requests of someone trying to help, or playing the victim when accused of doing something, people selfishly only think of their own personal needs, no matter the level of actual importance. This negative perspective can still be seen and demonstrated by many students regarding dress codes in public schools throughout the United States. Ignoring the usually simple guidelines in place to maintain a decently dressed school population, students deliberately refuse to follow rules and only create frustration amongst administration. Although fellow students may see this issue as a violation of their “right” to express themselves with their clothing, I personally support this idea, since it would restrict the ability to wear distasteful, inappropriate clothing, reduce clothing costs in the long run, and provide less of an opportunity for some to bully others based on the clothes they have and can afford. First and foremost, the addition of a school-wide uniform requirement would definitely be helpful in restricting poor attire choices on the behalf of the student. By taking away the ability to wear unprofessional fashion, there is a much smaller chance for pupils to offend others or make themselves look worse, even though they may not recognize it at the time. While some students may argue that they never caused an issue in the first place, the usage of uniforms could even demonstrate the true-to-life idea that the actions of some often unjustly have effects on all. If students on the whole would have followed the few, rather laid-back parameters, there would be no need for greater restrictions involving uniforms.
