The chapter “Drilling and Killing: Chevron and Nigeria’s Oil Dictatorship,” in the book, The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media that Love Them, by Amy and David Goodman, illuminates the atrocities, murders, pollution, and human rights violations associated with Chevron in Nigeria, committed with the support of the Nigerian government and the US government. Goodman makes many good points and insights about the inhumane and horrible atrocities happening in Nigeria with the US oil companies to fault. I agree with Goodman that the US oil companies are at fault for all of the inhumane treatment and them destroying of the native’s territories.
I agree with Goodman on the fact that people should not be getting treated the way they are on their own land. It just shows how weak and manipulative the Nigerian government is. The native peoples are being killed and their villages destroyed by these U.S oil companies. These companies try to keep it out of the press and when it does get out they say they will work on it and inevitably do nothing about the problem and it just keeps getting worse. With influential politicians making millions off of these oil operations I don’t see an end coming to this anytime soon.
