Twenty-one is the magic number right now for alcohol. Yet it is not all that uncommon for kids under the age of twenty-one to get their hands on this “forbidden fruit”. The temptation for an underage drinker is so enticing. Some just do it because they were told not to, others just like drinking. It’s no secret now a days kids can ask their older friends to buy them alcohol or just get ahold of a fake ID. Lower the age and alcohol will become less of a problem. The age old argument, if an eighteen year old can join the military and vote for political figures then why can’t they make the decision to drink or not? This isn’t necessarily true. Everyone is different. There are cases where an eighteen year can have a higher tolerance than someone who is twenty-one plus. Sure it makes sense. You don’t want someone who can’t handle their alcohol drinking. However in this case age is just a number and has no relation on how someone can or can’t handle their alcohol. In other countries like Italy, Greece and many others, their drinking age is lower. With that there are far lower alcohol related deaths then in the United States. Showing that there is a possible relation between the drinking age and minors trying to hide it, so they are under the radar until it might be too late. Some universities even argue that the age should be lowered. Saying that if they were allowed to consume it legally then it would lowered the death rate related to alcohol in colleges. Also, a kid underage will be far less tempted to turn down alcohol because it is uncertain when they will be able to get their hands on it again. If the age was lower, and they could get the alcohol on their own, then they might be less tempted to drink one night because they know they can get it when they
