Humans are capable of many things, but driving while having a phone conversation is not one of them. Although many of the latest car models are equipped with hands-free phone technology, the absence of manually handling a cell phone (i.e. touching or dialing) does not eliminate the risk of having a car accident. In other words, hands-free cell phones can also impair drivers’ driving skills.

Researchers at the University of Utah concluded in their study that driving while simultaneously conversing on a hands-free cell phone can impair drivers’ driving performance (which includes a delay in their reaction time), and results in drivers experiencing a visual failure to properly intake, recognize, and recall external stimuli while driving.
