“Rise Above the Influence”
Drugs and alcohol has been a huge deal in our world this past century. Every day there are more and more people that develop an addiction. Even worse there are more family and friends affected by their behavior. There are currently 50 million worldwide users of the most common hard and illegal drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines. Anyone can develop an addiction such as men, women, adults and teens. It only takes one time to get hooked on either drugs or alcohol. Never think that it will never happen to you, because it could. Drugs come with all sorts of things such as, emotional changes, physical changes, and long term effects on your brain and body.
I. Worldwide Users A) How many Users 1. 50 million users today that use drugs B) How many are caused by drugs 1. 50,000 die each year from drug related causes 2. 16 million suffering from drugs 3. Only 3 million get treated.
II. Teens who do drugs A) Brain effects 1. High school students who use marijuana are 1.5 to 2 times more likely to have a C average in school then the ones who aren’t. B) Driving while intoxicated 1. Drivers’ ages 16-20 are 17 more likely to die in a car crash when alcohol is involved. C) Violence 1. Teens who have used drugs in the past year are 2 times more likely to be involved in violent behavior tha ones who haven’t.
