The Yvonne Dwomoh case highlights Steve’s exhaustive attention to detail. This case involved a victim who was severely disabled and unable to communicate. Dwomoh, a nursing home aide, failed to monitor the water temperature as she was bathing the victim. As a result, the victim received second and third degree burns to 20% of her body. Dwomoh did not report the burns and did not seek treatment for the victim. The burns were so severe that the victim spent the next 2 months in a burn unit. As a result of the burns, doctors had to remove the victim’s colon. In typical fashion, Steve spent countless hours preparing for trial. This was a very difficult case as the evidence was somewhat stale and the victim had no ability to communicate and shortly after burning the victim, the defendant Dwomoh sent a photo of victim’s injury to her supervisor who ordered Dwomoh not to call 911. Steve’s extensive consultation with the expert witness and knowledge of the case were instrumental in the defense decision to plead to abuse and neglect of an incapacitated
