CALLING DR. HARRIS
By the time Dylan’s insensitivity lesson about telling inappropriate jokes was completed we were driving up in front of the cabin. Before exiting the Rav4 to go inside for lunch, Dylan requested permission to ask another question. Having delivered on his previous query I was more than eager to listen to what his next question would be. I confidently said, “Of course you can pal.”
Dylan looked at me teary eyed and with a bewildered expression on his face. His ears started to turn red then hesitantly asked me, “Did Mom call this morning like she promised?”
I thought that a negative answer would trigger another crying episode like last night’s, but I had no other choice than to be candid with him. I have never lied to either of my sons before and wasn’t going to start now. I made no excuses for Lynn but just shook my head in a negative manner and informed Dylan that his mother didn’t call.

Even at his young age, Mykle knew the nuances of the computer because his teacher integrates its usage with her class lectures. Mykle powered up my lap top, clicked on Google Chrome then typed in White Bluff Elementary School Savannah Georgia. In a matter of a few seconds the school’s website was on the screen. Mykle clicked the 4th grade button then onto the summer activities.
I asked Mykle what activity he wanted to start with. Mykle pointed at the list without touching the screen and while moving his finger downward until he eyed an activity that he wanted to work on. “Daily Reading Comprehension Daddy.” This activity included a short story to be read and a list of 10 questions to answer. Then I asked him to choose a story.
