Dystopian In Fahrenheit 451

The Movie Was Better!!! A dystopian characteristic in Fahrenheit 451 is that citizens live in fear of the outside world. This idea is supported when Granger was talking to Guy Montag about living in the country “No, the cities don't bother us….”(147). Granger is explaining that the book people are basically forgotten, so not many people are searching for them. Also, people in this society find nature weird and rely on technology, so they do not come looking for these people. Another instance that this statement is supported is when Clarisse is talking to Guy and stated “ The psychiatrist wants to know why i go out and hike around the forest….”(20). People who are different post a threat to the government's agenda they want to push. When they see clarisse walking around enjoying nature they are nervous she can see right through what they want her to think. When Guy pulled out the book in his house, Mrs Bowles nervously stated “That's not right, we can't do that….”(95). Mrs. Bowles is scared of the book Guy has becuase she is brainwashed. She cannot think for herself, so she follows the rules exactly, so when she sees a book she does not know what to do. Finally, Captain Beatty is explaining to Guy how the government controls people. “The home environment can undo a lot you try to do at school. That's why we've lowered the kindergarten age year after year until now were almost snatching them from the cradle...”(57) Older people are known to have more knowledge, so when you give them time to talk to children, they can change the ideas the government wants the adolescents to have. Older people are also more likely to read books, and restricting time with them doesn't let kids even know books exist. Not only are the citizens stupid, but they cannot think for themselves in Fahrenheit
