Ms. Hubbell Prompt: Explain why EBHS should consider "your life your choice" positive advertising campaign. East Boston High School (EBHS) should consider "your life your choice" because smoking is a big problem here in EBHS and this campaign could help to show some consequences of smoking and generate some consciousness. First, smoking has several consequences. For example according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA),
"cigarette smoking kills an estimated of 440,000 United States citizens each year more than alcohol, illegal drug use, homicide, car accidents and AIDS combined" (NIDA 1). This evidence proves that smoking kills and it has a death rate higher than many other things like AIDS which is a problem because here at EBHS students smoke a lot in the restrooms or outside the school.
In addition NIDA also says, "cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ in the body. It has been linked to cataracts and pneumonia and to about 90% of all cases of lung cancer" (NIDA 1).
This evidence illustrates two possible consequences of smoking: cataracts and pneumonia, which means that smoking has several more consequences that just lung cancer teens need to know about this and that they can be affected by this diseases. Second, secondhand smoking is extremely dangerous. For example the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says,
