The Reconstruction Era was a crucial period in American history, but it had its flaws and limits. Though this point in history made significant changes, including civil rights and freeing of black Americans, it was also a time of social and economic disturbance. In particular, the enactment of Reconstruction laws often fell short of reaching their intended goals, making Black Americans feel belittled and denied full reign to different societal freedoms.

There were multiple factors during the Reconstruction Era that brought the movement backwards. One of those is the economic inequality comparing White and Black Americans. For example, Sharecropping, which refers to a debt bondage system that trapped many freed slaves in poverty during Reconstruction.
