Respected by many, Hawaiian icon, Eddie Aikau’s legacy continues to leave an imprint on the world. As a lifeguard, a big wave surfer, a friend, a peacemaker and a brother, Aikau promoted the Hawaiian heritage and brought unity to the islands of Hawaii. Eddie Aikau is recognized for his gregarious personality, humble character, and most importantly, his exceptional spirit. Eddie’s mana is apparent to all that know of him. Still today, Eddie Aikau’s strength and courage attracts worldwide attention and serves as inspiration, especially, for the children of Hawaii.

I am aware of the difference I can make in someone’s life. Knowing of Eddie Aikau’s mana and his impact on the world and on thousands of people, I realized that my generosity does not need to be limited. Generosity should not be restricted to those who are in need of medical and financial aid. Relative to Eddie’s way of life, generosity can be shown through little acts of kindness, for instance, by defending the common adversary as he did, opposed to his brothers of the islands. Not only can generosity be given to all, but it should also be given out of pure love, without expecting anything in return. Eddie’s mana has influenced me to lead a generous life through acts of kindness. I spend school nights consoling my friend for hours because I am concerned for her mental state and I understand the importance of being there for her. Knowing of the positive impact I make in her life is satisfying enough; I do not expect anything in return. Thus, by leading a life similar to Eddie’s, by liberally giving my time, energy, and all that I can to others, I can lead a happy life without regrets by constantly doing for others and giving just as Eddie
