The Definition of insanity from Merriam-Webster is, “unsoundness of mind or lack of the ability to understand that prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction or that releases one from criminal or civil responsibility.” Now imagine you are in trial for insanity. Would you rather go to a mental hospital or jail for the rest of your life? Insanity has been a staple of crimes since the early 1800’s. In the Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart our narrator is shown to be insane, But he say keeps saying that he’s sane. Hearing things come from being insane or can lead to insanity. The narrator is the story says that he hears, “I heard all things in the heaven and the earth.”(Paragraph 1). According to the Mental Health Foundation, if you hear voices it may be connected with a mental health problem. This shows that you may be hearing things because either you are insane or any mental health problem. On WebMD, it says that hearing voices is directly related to schizophrenia. It also says that schizophrenia is related to insanity.
