Edmund S. Morgan wrote The Puritan Dilemma, which focused on John Winthrop’s life, and his experience establishing the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It discusses the ups and downs, and the controversy surrounding Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams around the same time. The Puritans seemed to seek the approval of their citizens, but they excommunicated Hutchinson and Williams for voicing their opinion.
