The first attribute that makes a city successful is creative and innovative people. Edward Glaser says “dense concentrations of entrepreneurial talent encourage the growth of related industries” (49) . Innovative minds have the ability to create new inventions that has a byproduct of stopping the city from becoming stagnant financially. Smart people who create small firms and make connections to the outside world create a cities success.

Tied to the attribute above is opportunities for a higher education. With universities and other forms of higher education being in the city, you gain the young and innovative minds mentioned above.
