Steve Jobs once said “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become”. This quote applies to Edward Lewis, the main character in the movie “Pretty Woman”. Lewis is a very successful businessman who happened to stumble upon a hooker by the name of Vivian. Through the actions and impressions of Vivian, Edward has learned to let loose and do whatever makes him happy.
In the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Edward, who is supposed to be attending a party just for him, seeing that he is the “guest of honor.” Meanwhile the party guests begin to notice Edward’s lack of presence. We later find out that Edward is on the phone with his ex girlfriend,

“When you and I were dating, did you speak to my secretary more than you spoke to me?” Edward questioned. “She was one of my bridesmaids.” The woman responded. Thus going to show that even in previous relationships Edward’s outlook on relationships has remained a constant of believing that business comes first, and the enjoyable benefits of a relationship are neglected. Further on in the movie when we meet Vivian, she questions Edward on the relationship between him and his father. Edward responds by stating that, “I haven’t spoken with my father in 14 and a half years.” Vivian is thoroughly shocked when she is told that. The previous statement further demonstrates Edward’s lack of interest and investment in relationships. This includes relationships that are involuntary and come naturally without choice. Edward did not choose to have a father, but yet he has one so that relationship was involuntary yet semi-present.
