In today’s society those who don’t quite fit the definition of normal tend to stand out and be the outcast. Many of those people go on to live prosperous lives. Tim burton is a prime example of this. He has shown us how differences don’t measure a person’s chance for success many saw Burton as a dark figure who only created films possessing creepy or scary moods to them. His style has helped him to become one of the most famous and talented directors in Hollywood. We see characters who go through the same experience. In his films including Charlie and the chocolate factory and Edward Scissorhands we see how these characters are different from the people and things around them but turn out with the most success in the end. Burton uses flashbacks, low angles and sound lighting to show the audience how just because these characters are different they are able to find success in the end.

Low angles are used in both films to show how powerful and intimidating something can be. In Edward Scissorhands a low angle is used as Peg stands outside of the castle gates waiting to go in. In Edward Scissorhands a flashback is shown to reveal how Edward come to be who he is. The scientist who created Edward passed away before he was able to finish building Edward. This shows how Edward came to be who he is and what made him so different from everyone else. Edward is quickly accepted into the community because of his talent with his hands. In Charlie and the chocolate factory there is a flashback where we see Charlie’s troubled childhood. His father gave him a hard time about being able to eat candy and trick or treat like the rest of the children his age.
