“I knew that even if I were second or third rate, it was astronomy that mattered” -Edwin Hubble. This quote explains a man who broke the promise he made to his father and followed his passion. Hubble was a groundbreaking American Astronomer who revolutionized our knowledge of the universe and established the foundations for all of cosmology.

Edwin P. Hubble was an American Astronomer and Scientist that lived from 1889-1953. As a kid, he began reading science fiction novels and fell in love. In 1906, Hubble attended the University of Chicago, where he studied law philosophy. He graduated three years later with a bachelor's degree in jurisprudence. Not long after he decided to attend the University of Chicago once again and study Astronomy.

In 1920, Hubble noticed a pulsating star with a Cepheid variable inside each one. He then calculated how far away each Cepheid laid as well as how far to each nebula and discovered they were too distant to be in the Milky Way. Due to this, he realized that there indeed were galaxies outside of the Milky Way. Next, Hubble discovered the Big Bang Theory. He studied ancient light and concluded about 13.7 billion years ago nothing existed. All matter and energy in the universe were compressed into an extremely small volume. 13 years ago it exploded and expanded in all directions. The support to back this up is light from other galaxies and how the spectral lines almost shifted towards the red end of the spectrum as when red shift galaxies are moving away, Earth is expanding. When his telescope was launched, black holes with masses of a few suns were believed to exist which resulted to supernova explosions and collapsed cores with gravity. The data had shown astronomers that these black holes really exist but they had no clue how to find them. Astronomers knew black holes are not observable but knew falling gas would be rushed to extreme velocities and producing high energy gamma rays. Six months after the first shuttle mission, the astronomers discovered a massive observation of the core of an active galaxy (M87), which is around 5o million light years from Earth. Their spectrograph
