The Alzheimer’s disease is not only affect Ken’s life, but also his family. His wife, Nikki Dodson, stop working and become full time caregiver to take care Ken, because Ken cannot take care himself. The family lost the source of income, lost their insurance, had their car repossessed, and lost their good credit. Their life changed.
Nikki Dodson, being the caregiver of Ken, experience a lot of stress and had many responsibilities. She didn’t have good sleep, because she need to be alert during the night in case something may happen. There are many things she had to do, including take care her husband and her three children, and this make she sometimes forget about things. She also need to deal with the personality change in Ken and the rage that Ken will have with no reason, she said that, “I almost am married to two different people. I have my husband and I have the person I care for.”
