NUR 807 – Clinical Decision Making Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Plagiarism and academic integrity are ideas that should be familiar to students at all levels of education. Academic integrity is an essential component of academic and professional success, and is defined as “a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to six fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage” (The International Center for Academic Integrity [ICAI], n.d.). In addition to facing serious academic and professional consequences, individuals who commit academic dishonesty deceive the consumers, customers, and patients who assume their degrees and credentials were earned honestly. It is honesty and integrity that lay the foundation for success, both in the classroom and beyond.
