The experiment that Ehrenreich conducted was realistic. For example, when she receives a food voucher the items she receives is realistic. Ehrenreich notes the type of food that is offered to her. She is not impressed with the food she receives and is limited on how many of certain items she can take (103). Ehrenreich is being realistic in her experiment because she is taking the food that is given to her and is thankful for what she receives. Instead of cheating with her debt card and not following through with the experiment; she decides to not be comfortable and continue the experiment. In chapter three Ehrenreich is unrealistic when she is going to watch the bird of her landlord in return to stay in the home. She claims that when she comes home after work it is not peaceful in the home (Ehrenreich 130). Budgie makes all kinds of noises and wants to come out of his cage when seeing Ehrenreich (130). Ehrenreich is given an opportunity that her other co-workers are not given. In chapter one Ehrenreich emphasizes on how her co-workers are living. A woman she works with named Marianne who severs during breakfast lives with her boyfriend who rent a one-person trailer for $170 a week (Ehrenreich 26). Ehrenreich’s third rule is that she had to take the lowest cost place to stay that had privacy and safety that meet her standards (4). She looked for places to stay and her options were between an apartment for $120 a week with more enmities, or taking an apartment that was $110 with less enmities (Ehrenreich 56). Ehrenreich broke the third rule by taking the apartment for $120 a week to make her feel more comfortable. By breaking this rule, she is giving us less evidence on how it is to live a minimum wage
