The British Museum insists that the Elgin Marbles should stay in the museum. First of all these sculptures are very old and fragile. Transportation may cause damages on the sculptures. Next, the Elgin marbles have been in Britain for almost two hundred years, it become one of the symbols of London and Britain. It represents the British Museum too. It will be a huge loss for Britain if they return the Elgin marbles to Greece. The museum will lose its representative, which will have a negative effect on British culture. Thirdly, Britain has better cultural and economic environment for the Elgin marbles than Greece.
