Before Elie Wiesel and other Jews experience the concentration camps, Wiesel has a strong faith. He develops his faith in one straightforward line: “I believed profoundly” (1), regarding his faith at only age twelve. He illustrates the level of maturity he has towards his faith. Wiesel also establishes faith in his response to Moshe’s question, “‘why do you pray?’”, he asked me, after a moment. Why did I pray? A strange question. Why did I live? Why did i breathe?” (2).
