In 1944, a Jewish teenager’s destiny is changed forever when he and his family are rounded up by the Nazi madness and endure a “hell on earth” where survival was nothing more than chance, or was it? In the novel “Night” by Elie Wiesel, the writer Elie, was so affected by the forced brutal situation and the harsh reality before him that he literally transformed into total survival mode. The effect his imprisonment had on him lead to his change in emotion, the psychiatric effect, and his faith in God.

As Elie was moved from various concentration camps his emotional and physical state deteriorated. Initially, he thought the allied forces would free them because he could hear gunshots and grenades going off all around the camp. “Hitler won’t be able to harm us even if he wants to…”(page 8). Elie somehow kept a tiny hope for his own survival thinking only chance and luck were by his side now. " For God’s sake, where is God? And from within me, I heard a voice answer Where is he? This is where-hanging here from this gallows." (page 65). “It’s over God is no longer with us.” (page 76). Why should I sanctify His name? The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent. What was there to thank Him for?”(page 33).
This text and the events that happen during what was said clearly shows he lost faith in God and humankind. When he had a moment of clarity, Elie knew his mind was deeply affected. Elie was able to “see” what could be his demise if he let it happen and he wrestled with the thought until all he could think about was bread and not guilty and dismal thoughts about his own father and
