In my opinion,the way Elie perceives his father is horrified and can’t take seeing hi father so sick all this time toward the end of concentration camp.Elie and his father have been together since the beginning since they took both of them in the cattle cars.They both are trying to survive together and get out to have freedom and not look back anymore and keep going further.Elie’s father doesn’t want to be alive anymore towards the end of the story and just wants to die since he has nothing else to live for.
