The Demon Lover, a short story by Elizabeth Bowen is very ambiguous. It tells the story of Mrs. Drover, which in my opinion, can be interpreted in two ways. One possible way is that this is a ghost story and she is being haunted by her ex husband who is presumably dead; or she can be crazy and hallucinating everything. Both interpretations might be correct, since we are never exactly told which version is accurate. I personally think that this is more of a ghost story than one of a woman being crazy because there is more information to back up the fact that it is actually her ex lover haunting her.

Some people could argue that Mrs. Drover was probably mentally unstable because she says she doesn't remember her lover's face, which is really
